Dr. Saleh R. Ihwas

Dr. Ihwas studied law at the University of Trier with a major in white collar crime, criminology and European criminal law. After his studies he worked as an academic assistant at the chair of criminal law at the University of Trier, held by Professor Dr. Mark A. Zöller. During this time, he received his doctoral degree on the subject of "Law enforcement in the Social Network Services". Afterwards Dr. Ihwas completed his legal clerkship within the district of the Higher Regional Court Koblenz.
Upon his admission as a lawyer in 2015 he was working in a law firm in Wiesbaden that specializes in white collar crime and tax criminal law. In 2018 Dr. Ihwas joined Knierim & Kollegen in Mainz.
Dr. Ihwas works in the fields of (criminal) data protection law as well as criminal law concerning the internet. He represents companies and individuals in the event of infringements of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG). Furthermore, Dr. Ihwas advises companies and unincorporated associations regarding the implementation of the GDPR; he focusses on persons who are bound by professional secrecy (e.g. tax accountants and physicians). Dr. Ihwas is a certified data protection officer (TÜV NORD).
Dr. Ihwas defends and advises individuals as well as companies in cases regarding white collar crime. He defended a member of the supervisory board of a stock company, who was being accused of embezzlement, and a certified public accountant, who was being accused of a violation of reporting obligations in relation to the insolvency of a major drugstore-company. He also specializes in internal investigations.
He is a member of the German Bar Association (DAV), the Criminal Law Section of the German Bar Association and the Wirtschaftsstrafrechtliche Vereinigung (WisteV). He is a member of the board of the Association to promote the Institute for German and European Criminal Procedure Law and Police Law (ISP) at the University of Trier.
